School is definitely keeping me on my toes this semester. I feel like I haven't truly had a moment to breathe, but when it's all over, I think it'll be worth it.

Drawing is frustrating at best. I'm very slow at learning this particular art, and it's frustrating to be in a class with many talented people, and I'm struggling still with making a convincing volume. *angst* I know I need more practice, unfortunately, the perfectionist side of me gets really frustrated in a hurry, and then I'm too worked up to draw anymore. Anyone else run into this problem? Suggestions on how to get around it? My next drawing has to be a minimum of 48" on one side, so I'm feeling a little anxious about how this is going to be, especially since it's gotta be a self portrait. >.<

Metalsmithing is really the high point of my day, despite being at the end of a very long one. I love working with my hands and all the different ways of working with copper that we've been doing. My professor is wonderful too, so that makes it a lot of fun. I'm working on three major projects now that'll last until the end of the semester: a box, and a vessel, and a wand. I posted a work in progress shot of the vessel, and I'd love to show the progress of the box since it had a pretty awesome dragon design pressed into the copper, but until I finish the piece and tint the design, it won't be really visible, so kinda boring. The wand is still in the planning stages, but once I get more work done I'll definitely do some work in progress shots, 'cause I think it'll be awesome. :D

The English classes go well, not really a terrible lot to report there artwise, but in the next few weeks or so I hope to have some initial synthesis papers on a psychoanalytic reading of The Lord of the Rings that I will post for anyone who might be interested/geeky as I am. ;)

That is all for now, I need to go count some sheep. Hopefully I'll get caught up on the messages in my inbox soon.

Have a lovely week all.

wow the metalsmithing sounds really cool.. as far as the drawing and the frustration.. you need to surrender and just let it happen :) Out of Curiosity, which teacher do you have for the drawing class?

I really do need to just relax when it comes to drawing. It's so hard, 'cause I want to make pretty things, but I think I end up defeating myself. My professor for drawing is Ian Harvey. He's pretty cool, but I kinda think he feels like I have no business being in his class at my current skill level. >.<

The metalsmithing, is bleeding awesome. I'm really mad at myself at the moment though, 'cause I slept through my alarm and now I'm missing the open lab period. I wanted to work on my bowl more. :(

The best thing to do with the drawing is to let go. Let it flow, perfection only comes when we don't force it. :meditate:

:giggle: That sounds very Zen. I shall have to try. ^_^ Thank you!

Just remember with drawing you rarely learn anything when you create something you are satisfied with. The fact that you are frustrated is the best sign you can have. My recommendation would be if you run into a road block, take a detailed look at how other artists have handled the problem and let that sink into your subconscious. At this point your learning curve is very high, so take advantage of that! Use frustration to fuel improvement by pushing yourself to solve the problem. Do more work when you are frustrated than not. Representational drawing is a skill, not a talent.
